2010
Silverock Cove is proud to announce that we are one of the lead sponsors (along with Mountain High Outfitters) for this year’s Save the Black Warrior campaign! Save the Black Warrior 2010 begins at participating Tuscaloosa and Birmingham bars and restaurants on September 1 and runs through the month. The Black Warrior River watershed is a vital source of wildlife habitat, recreation, and drinking water for the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham areas. The campaign has raised more than $20,000 to support the Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s river patrol and water quality monitoring programs since 2008.
Silverock Cove is pleased to be involved with this month-long fundraiser, as the efforts of the BWR help to preserve Smith Lake and the surrounding ecosystem. We have been committed to helping them raise funds this year, partnering with them during the Dock at the Rock event in May and most recently during our online photo contest.
How can you get involved? Simply visit your favorite Birmingham or Tuscaloosa watering holes in September and purchase paper fish for $1, $5 or $10, or a custom-made Save the Black Warrior t-shirt, to help raise awareness and much-needed cash for the river. To find a complete list of establishments (“participating accounts“) involved in this effort and other ways to help, check out www.savetheblackwarrior.com.

You could make the winning hand and walk away with the $500 first prize!
Come down to Smith Lake this Saturday, July 17th, to participate in the 10th Annual Mike Beasley Foundation Poker Run. Registration kicks off at 8 am at Duskin Point Marina, the Run starts at 10 am. There is a $20 entry fee.
There should be a lot of extra traffic on the lake as boats go from dock to dock to pick up cards. Each participant gets up to 10 cards to make the best hand, winner wins the grand prize of $500.
This year there will also be a $1 raffle separate from the poker hands, and the winner of the raffle gets a $200 gift card. The winners of the raffle and the Poker Run will be announced at a post-Run party at Silverock Cove between 4pm and 6pm.
The annual event has raised more than $250,000 since its inception, with the funds helping to purchase equipment and benefit the Smith Lake Task Force and fire and rescue agencies in the area.
Harold Beasley, owner of the Duskin Point Marina, created the Mike Beasley Foundation when his son died in a 2001 boating accident. Area rescue crews did not have the necessary equipment to search in 200 ft of water, and the family had to wait eight days for a Mobile diving crew to arrive.
For more information, please contact Duskin Point Marina at 205-384-6942.

Who's ready for fireworks?
Lots of activity at Silverock this summer, and we expect a busy weekend for the 4th of July! The weather (according to Thursday’s forecast) is looking like a typical Alabama summer–hot, humid and sunny. Should be an ideal weekend for getting the boat out of storage and spending some time on the water.
Be sure to head up to head up to Ryan’s Creek for an All-American fireworks show Sunday night. Great to watch from your boat or a nearby dock. And Sharon Manasco says that the competing fireworks show between the big island and Mark Provo’s house on the bluff is a great display on the Silverock side of the lake.
Have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend–See you at Silverock!
