What’s new at Silverock for 2012?

The boardwalk is completed along Phase IV

Hard to believe that Silverock Cove broke ground 4 years ago. In that time we have made progress on building a beautiful community with homes that are perfectly suited for Smith Lake. Looking ahead to this year and the work that is ongoing at Silverock, we are making progress toward completing construction at the site.

Work is wrapping up along Phase III of Silverock. Construction will begin on the last set of Oaks town homes, and the 4-unit building should be completed in June 2012.

Along Phase IV, we are at work on the row of homes leading to the edge of Silverock. These cottage homes offer phenomenal views of Smith Lake, and are situated amongst a thick canopy of Alabama hardwoods. The eight homes under construction will lead to the edge of Silverock, and the road will circle back where more homes are planned to begin construction in the second half of 2012.

Landscaping work continues, and the boardwalk is nearly complete. Now you can walk from one end of Silverock to the other. Soon, the boardwalk will lead to the second swimming pool in Phase IV, which is under construction and should be completed by April. Also, as more residents will be moving in, we are expanding our boat storage facility to accommodate the increased demand for our valet boat service.

Walking through Silverock recently, it’s interesting to look back at the first phases of development and how they are progressing. As work continues, it’s nice to look back at how the initial vision for Silverock has been realized, and how the next year will be full of new improvements. Come visit us soon and check out our progress!

Wake the World 2012 Set for June 25th

The children from Big Oak Ranch at Silverock Cove for Wake the World 2011.

Silverock Cove is pleased to announce that Wake the World Alabama is returning to Smith Lake on June 25th.

Wake the World held their first event in Alabama last year, and many Silverock residents volunteered their time and their boat for the event. Wake the World is asking for volunteers this year, they already have 5 boats committed so far but are looking for 15-20 boats to accommodate the expected crowd.

Learning to surf the wake at Wake the World 2011

Wake the World was founded by Greg Hodgin, a former pro wakeboarder from North Carolina. Now operating in 10 states, Wake the World gives children from Children’s Homes a “day at the lake” and takes kids out for wakeboarding, skiing and tubing. The children from Big Oak Ranch got to be a part of Wake the World last year, and it was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. They will be back to participate this year.

Anyone interested in volunteering or donating to Wake the World, please contact Heath Patton at sidetracked3@yahoo.com. Also, Wake the World Alabama is a registered 501c3, and they are looking for sponsors for this year’s event as well.

You can visit Wake the World’s Facebook page here.

–Update–Wake the World has 15 boats confirmed, as well as food provided from Hog Wild BBQ and Tazikis. Thanks to everyone who has helped put the event together this year!

Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions at Silverock

It's 2012!

The holidays have come and gone, you’ve welcomed in 2012 and put up all your decorations. Now it’s time to get onto your New Year’s Resolutions!

It’s easy to make New Year’s Resolutions, it’s tougher to stick with them. Below is a list of some popular resolutions and some great ways to keep them going when you’re up at Silverock.

1. Spend more time with family and friends: Carving time out to spend with your family is a great reason to make a trip up to Silverock. Cooking out and watching movies together is more fun at the lake. Sometimes it’s easier to bond with your family when you deliberately “get away.” If you’ve resolved to spend more time with the family, making the trip to Silverock more often will help, even in the winter months.

2. Get in shape: Exercise has been linked with more health benefits than anything else known to mankind. And it’s one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions–just check out the extra joggers on the road and the new people joining the gym this week. If you’re up at Silverock, you can take advantage of the hiking trails in the woods and our newly completed boardwalk that goes all the way into the new Phase IV of the development. Getting an extra 20-30 minutes of walking in a day is a great way to keep up your exercise regimen.

3. Lose weight: One of the most popular resolutions–people always want to lose weight so they can look and feel better. Making the trip up to Silverock means home cooked meals. If you are diligent about what you pack up to the lake you can control your diet carefully without a distraction from fast food or a frozen yogurt shop.

4. Learn something new: Many people resolve to pick up a new skill or hobby over the new year. Whether you’re into boating or fishing, want to try wakeboarding or skiing, or just want to load up some courses on your laptop to read on the porch, Silverock is the place to focus on a new set of skills.

Let us know what your resolutions are and how they’re coming along! Good luck!
